For the second time in four months, Pavilion Park, the first of Irvine’s Great Park Neighborhoods, has been honored as Master-Planned Community of the Year. The community’s latest triumph came at the International Builders Show (IBS), where Pavilion Park virtually swept The Nationals competition and took Platinum honors in the Best in American Living Awards (BALA).
Twenty-four of Pavilion Park’s youngest residents showed off their artistic side at a three-day Art Camp held over winter break. Laughter and tiny voices filled the air as the young artists got to work. Ranging from kindergarten to second grade, the mini Picassos created nature imprints, tree designs, free-form abstract drawings, self-portraits and more.
For more than five years, Great Park Neighborhoods has collected nearly 1,000 bikes at its annual Holiday Bike Drive. The tradition continues this year and you are invited to help us reach our goal of 500 bikes. All new and gently-used donated bicycles will be distributed to non-profit organizations that are devoted to improving the lives of children and families in need in Orange County, including Families Forward, Riverside Charitable, OC Community Housing Corporation and OC Rescue Mission.
With trumpets blaring and drums booming, Northwood High School’s marching band energized the crowd as the Irvine Unified School District Board of Education, local dignitaries and members of the public gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking for Portola High School – Irvine’s highly anticipated fifth high school. More than 200 people witnessed the milestone that took place on what will be home base of the high school’s future baseball diamond.
Many families spent their first weekend of fall touring the remaining new home collections at Pavilion Park and playing games on the iconic great lawn at the Find Your Happiness Home Tour. It was a celebration of Pavilion Park’s strong success since the grand opening of the first Great Park Neighborhood one year ago. The weekend included live music from folk and jazz bands, a balloon artist and Great Park Neighborhoods’ signature orange ‘Front Porch Popsicles’ for guests to enjoy.
Thousands of glowing pumpkins, carved by the community, will illuminate Pavilion Park on Saturday, October 25 at the Great Park Neighborhoods first-ever “Pumpkin Glow.” This new legacy event for residents and the community is also the first of its kind for Orange County. It will feature carved and sculpted pumpkins, creating an amazing, illuminated outdoor pumpkin artwork display. The event will take place one night only on Saturday, October 25 from 6-9 p.m., at Pavilion Park.
Pavilion Park residents spent the summer learning how to cook up some delicious culinary creations at our monthly outdoor Cooking Demos. From May through September, they discovered the secrets to preparing delicious dishes by watching cooking demonstrations led by Chef Patty and Pavilion Park team member Laura. Outdoor Cooking Demos took participants on culinary explorations through Spain, Greece, India and the United States – right from the outdoor kitchen on Pavilion Park’s Visitor Terrace. But it is time to say ‘goodbye’, ‘adios’ and ‘athio’ to our outdoor Cooking Demos for this year. And as Julia Child once said, “...no one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.”
Pavilion Park in Irvine was the big winner at the 2014 SoCal Awards, taking home the night’s top honor – Master Planned Community of the Year.
